In the interests of fairness I should declare that the author is an old friend, and has offered me a day on a private stretch of the Hampshire Avon, full of 3lb roach, if I give his book a good review.

Not that anything I could have said would have made much difference to the fact that this limited edition book of 200 copies has pretty much sold out. Only a few leather bound copies at £165 are still available at the publishers.

Essentially, the story is about Bob’s chub fishing adventures, that started on the River L ea in the 1950’s and ended 50 years later in the same swim when he caught the fish of his dreams.

If I wanted to be critical the 30 pages hardly warrants a book - I think Bob should have ‘fleshed’ it out with a few tales from his vast and interesting (and often highly amusing) store.
